Passive Checks
Passive Checks
- A passive check is a fixed score used instead of a die roll
- Score = 10 + all modifiers that normally apply to the check
- Add +5 if the creature has advantage on the check
- Add −5 if the creature has disadvantage on the check
- Used when a task is routine, repeated, or when the DM wants to check without tipping off players
- Most common use: passive Wisdom (Perception) to notice hidden creatures or things
- e.g. +3 Perception modifier → passive Perception of 13
