Readying an Action
Readying an Action
- Use your action to ready another action
- Declare a trigger — a perceivable circumstance ("when the enemy moves into the doorway")
- Declare a response — what you will do when the trigger occurs
- Your reaction is held in reserve until the trigger fires
- When the trigger occurs you can use your reaction to take the readied action, or ignore it
- If the trigger doesn't occur before your next turn, the readied action is lost
Readying a Spell
- You can ready a spell as normal, but the spell must have a casting time of 1 action
- Expend the spell slot on your turn when readying
- You hold the spell's energy with concentration until the trigger occurs
- If your concentration is broken, the spell is lost without effect
- You cannot maintain concentration on another spell while holding a readied spell
- When the trigger occurs, use your reaction to release the spell
- If the trigger doesn't occur before your next turn, the spell is lost without effect
